Selfie vs Self Portrait

A selfie is casual, and a self portrait is formal, environmental, and informal. In a self portrait you have to be in a certain place, doing/wearing a certain thing. You have to dress and pose according to the type of photo you are trying to take. Selfies are taken wherever and you can pose however you want.
A formal portrait is where you dress up fancy and take a fancy photo. For example, if you were taking a prom photo, this would be considered a formal photo because you have to dress nice and pose a certain way. You wouldn't take a prom photo wearing jeans and a t shirt. An environmental photo is a photo you take in an environment that would represent you. You use the way you dress, pose and the space around you to represent who you are. An informal photo is the closest to a selfie, an informal photo is where you can dress, pose, and take the photo wherever and however you want, but they are a little more "high quality" than a selfie.
Therefore, a selfie is more casual and takes less time and effort to take. While a self portrait takes more thought. When taking a self portrait, people generally take more time to make the photo look good. I like how easy the article makes it to understand the difference between a selfie and a self portrait. I prefer a self portrait over a selfie because a self portrait seems to have more of a meaning and a story behind it than selfie does.
